Therapy for Teens (15+)
Support for teens ages 15+ who need support with anxiety, stress, emotional regulation, identity, school pressure, or relationships.
The teen years can feel overwhelming—for both teens and parents. Between school, friendships, family dynamics, and figuring out who they are, teens are navigating a lot all at once.
I offer virtual therapy in North Carolina for teens (15+) who may be struggling and could benefit from a supportive, nonjudgmental space to talk.
What Your Teen May Be Experiencing
Teens today face unique pressures, and it’s not always easy for them to open up—especially to parents or adults in their lives.
Some common challenges include:
Anxiety, overthinking, or constant stress
Low mood, irritability, or withdrawal
Academic pressure or school-related stress
Social challenges, friendships, or feeling left out
Difficulty with motivation or focus
Family conflict or communication struggles
Identity development and self-esteem concerns
Even when things don’t seem “that bad,” having a space to talk can make a meaningful difference.
Signs Your Teen May Benefit from Therapy-
It can be hard to know when to seek support. Therapy may be helpful if your teen is:
More withdrawn or isolating than usual
Experiencing increased anxiety, worry, or panic
Showing changes in mood, sleep, or behavior
Struggling academically or losing motivation
Having difficulty managing emotions
Avoiding situations that used to feel manageable
Expressing feelings of low self-worth or frustration
If something feels “off,” it’s okay to trust that instinct and explore support.
How Therapy Can Help
Therapy gives teens a space that is separate from parents, school, and social pressures—where they can talk openly and feel heard.
In our work together, we may focus on:
Understanding and managing anxiety and stress
Building emotional awareness and coping skills
Improving confidence and self-esteem
Navigating friendships and social dynamics
Strengthening communication and problem-solving skills
Supporting identity development and independence
My approach is warm, collaborative, and adapted to meet teens where they are. Sessions are structured in a way that feels approachable—not intimidating.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Consent requirements depend on custody arrangements and applicable law. Before therapy begins, I review the required consent and any custody documentation needed for your teen's care.
-
Therapy works best when teens have privacy and parents have a clear understanding of safety limits. I review confidentiality at the start of treatment, including when I must share information because of safety concerns, suspected abuse or neglect, or other legal and ethical requirements.
I work to keep parents appropriately involved in a way that supports the teen’s well-being. When possible, I approach these situations collaboratively with both the teen and parent to navigate next steps with care.
-
In most cases, I do not share specific details from sessions unless the teen gives permission or there is a safety concern.
Instead, I focus on sharing general themes, progress, and ways parents can support their teen outside of sessions.
-
Parent involvement may include intake participation, occasional check-ins, general progress updates, and collaboration around ways to support your teen outside of sessions. We decide together what level of involvement is clinically appropriate while still protecting the teen's therapeutic space.
-
All sessions are conducted using a secure telehealth platform. Your teen must be physically located in North Carolina at the time of each session and have access to a private space where they can speak openly.
I encourage teens to find a space where they feel comfortable. Some choose to use headphones, white noise, or sit in a location where they won’t be overheard.
Before starting, we’ll talk through options together to help create a setup that feels as private and comfortable as possible.
